Three (3) positions will be filled for 2023. Read the nominees’ bios below, and then click the Vote Now button to cast your vote!

I have been happy to serve on the Board of Directors for GIS Colorado for three years. I have contributed to the completion of the website migration, including an updated new “look,” as well as installing and configuring a better membership management product. I was a major content contributor to the Roles and Responsibilities documentation which will hopefully serve the board for years to come.

Argis Solutions

I have been a member since 2005 and participating as a volunteer (workshop instructor and presenter) since 2010. I moved to Colorado in 2016 and have served on the board ever since. I have almost 20 years experience as an imagery, mapping, web mapping, and database management specialist and am an active member in various state GIS groups outside of Colorado to help expand our outreach.

GIS Coordinator

I am a passionate, early career GIS professional with a specialization in environmental applications of GIS and remote sensing, as well as GIS in education. This last Spring I had the pleasure of attending the Elevations Geospatial Summit with my students! I think that GISCO is a wonderful community resource. I would love to be more engaged with GISCO and see a board position as a valuable way to contribute to the organization.

Yampa Valley Sustainability Council & GIS lab coordinator at Colorado Mountain College

I am an engineering technician with nearly 20 years of experience supporting the mining, civil, and geological engineering consulting industry. I am located on the Western Slope and wish to see more people more actively involved in GIS Colorado from this side of the Continental Divide. I hope to bring a different perspective to GIS than the normal avenues traditionally seen in the GIS communities.

Catherine Hoemke

COO

Argis Solutions, Inc.

Aurora, CO

My name is Cat Hoemke and I have been happy to serve on the Board of Directors for GIS Colorado for three years. During my time with the organization, I have contributed to the completion of the website migration, including an updated new “look,” as well as installing and configuring a better membership management product. I have had a great time at our quarterly meetings and was happy to present the State of GIS Colorado address at the 2022 Elevations Geospatial Summit in Steamboat Springs, CO. I was a major content contributor to the Roles and Responsibilities documentation which will hopefully serve the board for years to come. Personally, I advocated for GIS to be included in my local K-8 STEM school to help introduce the discipline early in 2021 in Parker, CO. Lastly, I have had a great time reconnecting with friends in the GIS community, especially as we all have weathered COVID19 restrictions and now are able to meet in person! It’s been a busy three years, but very rewarding! I hope to be able to continue to serve the community with a second term.

Genie Hays

GIS Coordinator

JeffCo Public Schools

Front Range, CO

My name is Genie Hays and I am running for re-election to the GIS Colorado board of Directors. I have almost 20 years experience as an imagery, mapping, web mapping, and database management specialist and am currently the GIS coordinator for JeffCo Public Schools. I have been a GIS Colorado member since 2005, participating in various capacities as a volunteer, presenter and sponsor. In 2016, I moved to the Denver area and have been serving on the board of directors ever since! As a current GISCO board member I enjoy serving in various capacities from event organizer, communications, training coordination, website transition and co-chair. It has rewarded me with great experiences and lasting friendships. In the past few years it has been very exciting to participate in building improved online resources such as an updated website and the GIS Colorado YouTube channel as well as engage with the GIS community through new volunteer and sponsorship opportunities. It would be a pleasure to serve another term on the board and continue bringing more value to the GIS industry.

Nicole Pepper
Geospatial Analyst

Yampa Valley Sustainability Council & GIS lab coordinator at Colorado Mountain College

Golden, CO

I am a passionate, early career GIS professional with a specialization in environmental applications of GIS and remote sensing, as well as GIS in education. My environmental experience in GIS was first explored through my participation in the NASA DEVELOP research program, where I lead three remote sensing projects in collaboration with federal and nonprofit partners including The Nature Conservancy, USGS and USDA. My favorite of which used satellite imagery to help the USDA detect wild cranberries in Wisconsin – -from space! After completing my contract, I moved to Steamboat Springs, where I now work as a Geospatial Analyst with Yampa Valley Sustainability Council (YVSC), a nonprofit focused on increasing sustainability and resilience in Northern Colorado. Most of my work with this organization has been focused on land and water resiliency projects in Routt and Moffat Counties. I have a huge passion for science communication, specifically using GIS, data visualizations and storytelling. This interest has shown up in my work with NASA and YVSC, as well as in my work in GIS education, I have worked for the UCLA Department of Geography to redevelop the lectures for their introductory to GIS courses to create more engaging lectures. I also work as a GIS lab coordinator with Colorado Mountain College. This last Spring I had the pleasure of attending the Elevations Geospatial Summit with my students! I think that GISCO is a wonderful community resource. I would love to be more engaged with GISCO and see a board position as a valuable way to contribute to the organization. I think that my organization skills, creativity, my background with federal and nonprofit collaborations, and my special interests in the environment and communication would provide me with a unique perspective that would add value to your board. Thank you for your consideration!

Stephanie Von Flue
Engineering Technician

RESPEC

Fruita, CO

I am an engineering technician with nearly 20 years of experience supporting the mining, civil, and geological engineering consulting industry. My expertise is in CAD and GIS platforms including ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, and a little bit of Revit. My experience encompasses technical projects with a variety of graphic manipulations and presentations, figure mapping for reports, dataset and database management, raster and imagery support functions, and technical report preparation and editing. I am also proficient in generating base map compilations as well as researching and downloading available raster and vector data. I believe my organizational skills would contribute in a meaningful way to the GIS Colorado board. I posit that I also offer a different view of how to use GIS: the mining and energy field utilizes GIS in various ways from field mapping, sample collection, and mineral resource and reserve estimations. I am located on the Western Slope and wish to see more people more actively involved in GIS Colorado from this side of the Continental Divide. While I do not have previous board experience, I hope to bring a different perspective to GIS than the normal avenues traditionally seen in the GIS communities.
